Program Overview


Polish Language and Literature MA Program

The Polish Language and Literature MA program is designed to prepare students to become well-trained specialists in Polish philology. This program provides comprehensive knowledge of Polish literature from its early period to the present day in a European context, as well as extensive knowledge of Polish grammar and the history of the Polish language.


Program Structure

  • The program consists of a basic common component compulsory for everybody (60 credits) and an optional specialization (22 credits).
  • The program ends with the preparation of a degree thesis on a chosen subfield of Polish philology.

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a university bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent college degree) in the fields listed below.
  • Full credit acknowledgement is only given for a bachelor’s degree in Slavonic Studies, Specialized in Polish Studies.
  • In the case of any other degree, each diploma will be considered individually.
  • The applicant must have 50 credits in the field of Polish studies.

Language Requirements

  • Medium level language competence in Polish (B2 level).
  • Depending on its (academic) profile, the applicant might be offered preparatory courses if this level of proficiency has not been reached yet.
  • English is the language of administration for all international courses at ELTE Faculty of Humanities.
