Program Overview


Introduction to the Advanced Clinical Practice MSc / PGDip / PGCert

The Advanced Clinical Practice MSc / PGDip / PGCert is a postgraduate program designed to prepare students for advanced clinical practice roles within the healthcare sector. This program is ideal for those looking to work as advanced clinical practitioners in various clinical areas and settings.


Program Overview

The program is accredited by the Centre for Advancing Practice and is designed to provide students with the necessary clinical, leadership, and management skills to become accredited Advanced Clinical Practitioners. The program consists of five core modules and a variety of optional modules, including a dissertation and research project.


Course Structure

The program runs over three years in a part-time mode, with the exact content subject to change. The program includes two routes: Prescribing and Research/Clinical. Students can choose to take the prescribing route, which includes modules on safe effective practice, scientific principles, and practice, or the research/clinical route, which includes modules on current issues in health, acute medicine, and chronic disease management.

Teaching Staff

The program is led by Jason Pritchard, the Director of the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice/MSc ACP Degree Apprenticeship (DA) and the MSc ACP MSK (DA) programs.


Entry Requirements

To gain a place at Birmingham, students must meet the general entry requirements, as well as those specific to the course. The standard entry requirements include:


  • A 2:2 Honours degree in the clinical field of practice
  • Current registration with one of the statutory regulators of health and care professions
  • At least 36 months of clinical experience post-qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development that shows an ability to study at Masters level

Fees and Scholarships

The University tuition fee covers the cost of tuition, supervision, assessment, and includes membership to the Guild of Students. The fees for 2026 entry are £3,750 for part-time students. The University also offers a range of scholarships, including the Birmingham Masters Scholarships, which award £3,000 to more than 300 students each year.
