Introduction to Advanced Engineering Management (Project Management) MSc

The Advanced Engineering Management (Project Management) MSc program at the University of Birmingham is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to take on senior or specialist roles in the field of engineering management. This program is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) and meets the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Course Overview

The course aims to deepen students' understanding of project and risk management, preparing them for leadership roles in the engineering sector. The program covers essential business management concepts, project management in engineering, production and risk management, marketing, finance, strategic innovation, and systems engineering.

Accredited Programme

This degree program is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM), comprising the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council. The accreditation meets the academic requirement for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Course Structure

The 1-year full-time program consists of 120 credits of taught modules and a 60-credit research project. The course can also be taken over 2-3 years part-time. The program includes core modules such as:

Entry Requirements

To gain a place at Birmingham, students will need to meet the general entry requirements, as well as those specific to the course. The requirements include:

• A 2:2 Honours Degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Maths, or Technology-based subjects from a recognized institution
• English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band, or equivalent qualifications

Fees and Scholarships

The University tuition fee covers the cost of tuition, supervision, assessment, and includes membership to the Guild of Students. The fees for 2026 entry are:

• £11,250 (full-time)
• £3,750 (3-year part-time) The University offers a range of scholarships, including the Birmingham Masters Scholarship, which awards £3,000 to more than 300 students each year.
