The Advanced Engineering Management (AEM) course is designed to boost career potential, opening up a world of possibilities in senior and specialist roles. This program deepens engineering knowledge and teaches key management skills, broadening career potential and allowing specialization in areas of interest.

Accredited Programme

This degree program is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM), comprising the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council, as meeting the academic requirement for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Course Structure

• This 1-year full-time program teaches research-led skills sought after in both the civil engineering and building industries.
• The course can also be taken over 2-3 years part-time.
• The program consists of 120 credits of taught modules and a 60-credit research project.

Course Delivery

• Jointly delivered by the School of Engineering and Birmingham Business School.
• Taught through a combination of lectures and workshops before undertaking a research project in the summer term.
• Includes learning about cutting-edge developments, receiving tailored guidance and feedback, and engaging in practical assignments.

Module Information

• The program is a 1-year full-time taught master's degree (180 credits).
• Core modules include:
  • Dissertation (60 credits)
  • Marketing and Financial Management (20 credits)
  • Organisational and Operations Management (20 credits)
  • Strategic Innovation Management (20 credits)

  • Construction Management
  • Engineering Production and Risk Management in Construction
  • Management Information Systems and Simulation
  • Systems Engineering and Systems Thinking

Entry Requirements

• 2:2 Honours Degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Maths, or Technology-based subjects from a recognized institution.
• Applicants with a 2:2 Honours Degree in the above disciplines alongside relevant work experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
• English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band.

Fees and Scholarships

• Full-time: £11,250
• 3-year part-time: £3,750
• The University offers more than £33 million in student support and scholarships.
• Postgraduate Masters loan available to all UK students.
