Program Overview

The Medical Sciences (Intercalated degree) MSci program is designed for medical students who wish to dive deeper into the science that underpins clinical practice. This integrated Masters degree combines advanced biomedical teaching with hands-on research training, allowing students to gain a solid understanding of the research behind biomedical topics and undertake a novel research project in their field of interest.

Entry Requirements

  • Available to students studying Medicine who have successfully completed their third or fourth year
  • Students must have a credit-weighted average mark of at least 55% in the first two years of their course
  • The program is not available before students have completed at least one year of clinical training

  • Undergraduate loans: Available to help with the cost of studies
  • Intercalation bursaries and awards: Sponsored by the University of Birmingham for external medicine applicants

Course Structure

  • The program follows two different course structures, with students choosing from a range of specialized biomedical themes
  • Students will undertake a four-month research project, working closely with leading academics from one of the College's Schools
  • The dissertation will be submitted in April/May, showcasing the student's ability to apply knowledge, think critically, and contribute original insights to their field
