Program Overview


Endodontic Diagnosis and Vital Pulp Therapy (Online) 20 credits

The Endodontic Diagnosis and Vital Pulp Therapy course is an introductory programme featuring a series of in-depth lectures on root canal system complexity and its impact on clinical treatment outcomes.


Course Overview

The course will cover the pulp-dentine complex, vital pulp management, and relevant clinical guidelines, including regenerative endodontic therapy. You'll explore the challenges and limitations of endodontic diagnosis and how these can affect treatment planning and patient care. The use of the clinical microscope and principles of ergonomic practice in the clinic will also be discussed.


By the end of the course, you'll gain foundational knowledge in diagnosing pulp disease and managing vital pulp effectively in a specialist practice and effective 4 handed dentistry.


Course Delivery

In addition to lectures, you'll undertake a number of independent clinical hours and related study.


Content

On completion, you should be able to:


  • Critically review the biology of endodontic disease and the evidence base for treatment.
  • Discuss the restorative concepts of pulpal protection.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the tooth and root canal anatomy and how this will affect patient management.
  • Explore the diagnostic difficulties in complex endodontic cases.
  • In depth knowledge of the use and interpretation of cone beam computed tomography.
  • Critically evaluate the complexity of management of resorptive and traumatic injuries and also the management of the adolescent patient.
  • Learn how magnification and proper ergonomics can improve the patient management and prepare, present and critic their own clinical cases as part of the case discussion.

Assessment

Case write up - 2,000 words. You'll need to write up a case relevant to this course. The case write up should be 1500 words and around 500 words need to be dedicated to reflections/critic of the management strategy utilised and how the knowledge gained has helped you enhance your knowledge and clinical practice.
