Program Overview

The University of Birmingham offers a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) program in Engineering, which is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle the challenges of the modern world. This flexible program allows students to explore various engineering disciplines before choosing their specialism.


Course Structure

The BEng program is a 3-4 year course that includes a combination of lectures, tutorials, labs, and hands-on projects. The first year is shared across the disciplines of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering. Students will study eight modules covering a range of engineering subjects for a total of 120 credits.

Entry Requirements

To secure a place at Birmingham, students must meet the general entry requirements as well as those specific to their course. The entry requirements include:


  • A Level: AAB to include A-level Mathematics
  • IB: 6,6,5 at Higher Level (including Mathematics) with 32 points overall
  • BTEC: BTEC options considered (DDD/DD/D) plus A-levels where required

Fees and Scholarships

The University tuition fee covers the cost of tuition, examination, and graduation, and includes membership of the Guild of Students. The fee for domestic (UK) students for 2026/27 is £9,535 per year. The University also offers a range of scholarships, grants, and bursaries to help students with the cost of their studies.
