The Formulation Engineering EngD is a four-year postgraduate course consisting of study and research, mainly based in industry. This EPSRC-sponsored doctoral program blends industry-based research with Masters-level training, recognized by IChemE, and helps students advance toward Chartered Engineer status while driving impactful change in engineering.

Course Structure

The program involves both taught modules (120 credits) and research. Students will investigate industrial problems, either with large multi-national corporations or SMEs, and will be mainly based in the School of Chemical Engineering, with the chance to be sponsored by an industrial partner.

Entry Requirements

• A 2:1 Honours degree in Chemical Engineering, Biological or Physical Sciences, or Mathematics
• English language requirements: IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band, or equivalent qualifications

• Tuition Fee: £5,181 (full-time)
• Funding Options: Apply for a PhD with funding attached, self-fund, or search for funding or a studentship
• Scholarships: A limited number of scholarships and studentships may be available to outstanding applicants
