The Mechanical Engineering (Automotive) MEng program at the University of Birmingham is designed for students who want to develop the vehicles of the future. This program is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and provides students with the skills to deliver results in an ever-changing industry.

Course Structure

The program is divided into four years, with the first year shared across the disciplines of Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering. The course structure includes:

• Year 1: Building a solid base of essential engineering fundamentals and developing a broader understanding of behavior, policy, entrepreneurship, and global perspectives.
• Year 2-4: Specializing in automotive subjects, with a focus on mechanics, computing, mechanical design, and powertrain engineering.

Entry Requirements

• A Level: AAA to include A-level Mathematics
• IB: 6,6,6 at Higher Level (including Mathematics) with 32 points overall
• BTEC: Considered on a case-by-case basis, with a focus on sufficient Mathematics content
• English language requirements: IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent qualification

Fees and Scholarships

• Tuition fee: £9,535 per year for domestic (UK) students for 2026/27
• Scholarships available for Home and International students
• Undergraduate loans and financial support available
