Microbiology and Infection PhD / MSc (Res)

The Microbiology and Infection PhD / MSc (Res) program at the University of Birmingham is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in research. The program is offered full-time or part-time and can be completed in a minimum of 36 months for full-time students and 72 months for part-time students.

Course Structure

The program consists of a research project, which is the main component of the degree. Students will work alongside leading researchers and develop the necessary skills to contribute to research of microorganisms, microbiomes, and infection.

• Year One: Students will submit a progress review form and a project report based on the first year of research.
• Year Two: Students will continue their research project and submit a progress review form.
• Year Three: Students will complete their research project and submit a thesis.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the program, students must have a 2:1 Honours degree in a subject relevant to the research area they are applying to. International students must also demonstrate a suitable level of English proficiency, usually through the form of an IELTS or equivalent qualification.

Fees and Scholarships

The University tuition fee covers the cost of tuition, supervision, assessment, and includes membership to the Guild of Students. The fees for the program are:

• £5,181 (full-time)
• £2,591 (part-time)
