Introduction to the Sexuality and Gender Studies MRes

The Sexuality and Gender Studies MRes is an interdisciplinary program that allows students to explore the fields of Sexuality and Gender Studies together, deepening their knowledge in both areas. This program is designed to develop the skills for both doctoral study and a future career, enabling students to become confident independent researchers.


Course Overview

The MRes in Sexuality and Gender Studies is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time program that combines taught modules with independent research. Students will complete a major individual research project supervised by a specialist in the field, alongside three taught modules during the first two terms of the MRes. The program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of current and historical views of gender and sexuality studies, including feminist theory, masculinity studies, queer theory, postcolonial theory, transgender studies, ethnography, sexology, and criminology.
