Introduction to the TESOL MSc Program
The University of Birmingham offers a Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), a program designed for aspiring language teachers with little or no experience. Program Structure
The TESOL MSc program is a 12-month full-time course, with the option to undertake the program on a part-time basis. The program consists of 180 credits of taught material, including a 60-credit dissertation project.
Semester 1
In the first semester, students will study two core modules: Research Methods in Education and Second Language Learning, as well as one optional module.
Semester 2
In the second semester, students will study Second Language Teaching Methodology and two optional modules from a range of choices, including Education, Curriculum Design, Planning, and Social Justice, and Language Education in Global Contexts.

Entry Requirements
To gain a place at Birmingham, applicants will need to meet the general entry requirements, as well as those specific to the course. The requirements include:
- A 2:1 Honours Degree in a related discipline (e.g., English language, linguistics, language teaching, education)
- English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band, or equivalent qualification

- £5,625 (part-time) The University of Birmingham offers a range of scholarships, including the Birmingham Masters Scholarship, which awards £3,000 to more than 300 students each year.
