Introduction to Natural Sciences MSci

The Natural Sciences MSci program at the University of Birmingham is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the natural sciences, encompassing disciplines such as physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences. Course Overview

The four-year program blends core modules that invite students to explore the essence of being an interdisciplinary scientist, alongside specialist modules from chosen subject pathways. These specialist modules develop deep expertise in selected fields while broadening knowledge across disciplines, enabling students to address complex issues from diverse viewpoints.

Year 1

In the first year, students receive training in the skills necessary to become an interdisciplinary scientist, working across and between different scientific disciplines. The Year 1 core explores fundamental questions about science, including what science is, who it is for, and how it is done. Students also select their study pathways, choosing from options that allow for specialization in one, two, three, or four subject areas.

Entry Requirements

To secure a place at Birmingham, students must meet the general entry requirements as well as those specific to the Natural Sciences MSci course. These include:

• A Level: AAA, including one required science subject.
• IB: 6,6,6, with 32 points overall.
• BTEC: Extended Diploma, Diploma, and Subsidiary Diploma are accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Fees and Scholarships

The University tuition fee covers the cost of tuition, examination, and graduation, and includes membership of the Guild of Students. For the 2026/27 academic year, the tuition fee for domestic (UK) students is £9,535. The University also offers various scholarships, grants, and bursaries to support students financially.

Application Process

Applications for undergraduate courses at Birmingham are made online through UCAS. The standard application deadline for September 2026 entry is January 14, 2026.
