Program Overview


Introduction to the Physics and Astrophysics MSci Program

The Physics and Astrophysics MSci program at the University of Birmingham is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the laws that govern the natural world. This four-year full-time program combines taught and optional modules, allowing students to tailor their degree and learning experience to match their interests.


Course Overview

The program covers a broad range of topics, including quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, electromagnetism, statistical physics, and astrophysics. Students will gain experience with coding in Python, as well as standard and astrophysics laboratory-based practicals. The program is accredited by the Institute of Physics, recognizing its high quality and relevance to the field.

Entry Requirements

To secure a place on the program, students will need to meet the general entry requirements as well as those specific to the course. The typical offer is AAA/AAAA to include A-level Mathematics and Physics grades AA (or AA as part of the four A level offer).


Fees and Scholarships

The University tuition fee covers the cost of tuition, examination, and graduation, and includes membership of the Guild of Students. The fee for domestic (UK) students for 2026/27 is £9,535 per year. Scholarships, grants, and bursaries are available to support students with their studies.
