Program Overview
The MSc Robotics program at the University of Birmingham is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in robotics, enabling them to pursue dynamic roles in hardware and software development. The program is a 1-year full-time course, comprising 180 credits, and is delivered in partnership by the Schools of Engineering and Computer Science.
Course Structure
The program consists of core compulsory modules, optional modules, and a research project. In the first two terms, students study the core compulsory modules (60 credits) and select from a wide range of optional modules (60 credits). Once the taught modules are completed, students work on a research project (60 credits) over the summer period.

Entry Requirements
To gain a place at Birmingham, students must meet the general entry requirements, as well as those specific to the course. The application will be reviewed by the course's Admissions Tutor, who will decide whether the application should receive an offer.
English Language Requirements
International students must demonstrate a suitable level of English proficiency, usually through the form of an IELTS or equivalent qualification or a Presessional English course. The required IELTS score is 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band.
Fees and Scholarships
The University tuition fee covers the cost of tuition, supervision, assessment, and includes membership to the Guild of Students. The fees for 2026 entry are:
- £12,150 (full-time)
- £6,075 (part-time)
The University offers a range of scholarships, including the Birmingham Masters Scholarship, which awards £3,000 to more than 300 students each year.
