Entry Requirements

To gain a place at the University of Birmingham, students must meet the general entry requirements, as well as those specific to the course. A 2:1 honors degree (or equivalent) in sport, business, or related disciplines is required. Candidates with applied sport business experience are encouraged to apply, even if they do not meet the stated academic requirements. A knowledge base of research methods acquired through undergraduate training is desirable.


English Language Requirements

International students must demonstrate a suitable level of English proficiency, usually through the form of an IELTS or equivalent qualification. The required scores are:


  • IELTS: 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band
  • TOEFL: 88 overall with no less than 21 in Reading, 20 Listening, 22 Speaking, and 21 in Writing
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Academic 67 with no less than 64 in all four skills
  • Cambridge English: C1 Advanced - minimum overall score of 176, with no less than 169 in any component
  • LanguageCert ESOL SELT (UKVI): B2 'Communicator' with no less than 33 in each skill

Fees and Scholarships

  • The tuition fee for the 2026 entry is £11,250 for full-time students and £5,625 for part-time students.
  • The University offers a range of scholarships, including the Birmingham Masters Scholarships, which award £3,000 to more than 300 students each year.
  • Postgraduate Masters loans are available to help with the cost of studies.

The application deadline for UK and non-visa requiring applicants is August 28, 2026. Early applications are encouraged, as the program may close once it is full.
