Bachelor of Science in Data Science for Responsible Business

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science for Responsible Business is a four-year, fully English-taught program that equips students with the skills to integrate data science and artificial intelligence (AI) into responsible business practices. Developed through a unique collaboration between emlyon business school and Centrale Lyon, this program merges technical expertise in data analysis and AI with a focus on sustainability and social responsibility.

Objectives

The program aims to train students to harness emerging technologies to drive business transformation and sustainable development. By integrating the strengths of both institutions—emlyon’s leadership in business education and Centrale Lyon’s engineering and research excellence—the BSc in Data Science for Responsible Business prepares students for the growing demand for data science professionals who can navigate the challenges of responsible business.

Program

Courses

The first two years of the program focus on building a strong foundation in artificial intelligence, data science, and responsible management. In the third year, students select one of three specialized tracks to tailor their learning experience to their career goals. All courses are delivered entirely in English.

Year 1 and 2: a common core

• 6-month internship (two 3-month internships)

Years 3 and 4: Specialization

Students can choose from three specialization tracks:

• Innovation, Human and Machine Cognition

Three tracks, three projects

Years 3 and 4 are primarily project-focused, with three specialized tracks structured as follows:

• Data Science: Students join a company for the spring internship and participate in a large-scale, year-long project, which culminates in delivering a project solution at the end of the internship.
• Research: Students engage in a research project in collaboration with a research laboratory, following a similar approach to the Data Science track.
• Entrepreneurship: Students receive training and support from the emlyon business school and Centrale Lyon incubators to create and launch their own startup.

One course, two campuses

The Bachelor in Data Science for Responsible Business is co-accredited with emlyon business school. Each week, classes are held on the campuses of both schools.

International Experience

In the 3rd year, students have the opportunity to spend one semester abroad at a partner university of Centrale Lyon or emlyon.

Diploma and certification

The BSc in Data Science for Responsible Business leads to a joint degree awarded by emlyon business school and Centrale Lyon, accredited by the French State.

Admission requirements and application

Pre-requisites

• Hold a general high school diploma with a strong background in mathematics, or an equivalent foreign qualification.
• Have a good command of English.

For French students:

Selection is based on a competitive process, including online assessments and a motivational interview.

International students

The BSc Data Science for Responsible Business is open to international students through a competitive selection process. Candidates are chosen by emlyon through a comprehensive online admissions procedure.
