Program Overview
University of Fribourg Master Programme in Psychology
The master programme in Psychology at the University of Fribourg provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific concepts and methodologies in Psychology. The programme aims to deepen students' understanding of the application of these concepts and methods in diverse settings, such as hospitals, organisations, schools, and research. Upon completion, students will be prepared to enter various fields in Psychology, including Clinical, Health, Organisational, Educational, Neuropsychology, and Human Factors and Ergonomics.
Profile of the Study Programme
The teaching provision in the master programme is characterised by individual supervision and small class sizes. The programme offers seven different options, each defining the field of the empirical master thesis and the internship. These options include:
- Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology: addressing the main factors in psychological health and their physiological basis.
- Cognitive Neuroscience: providing an understanding of the neurocognitive mechanisms that subtend human behaviour.
- Developmental and School Psychology: addressing changes and different stages of development experienced throughout the lifespan.
- Work and Organisational Psychology: covering the central themes of Work and Organisational Psychology, focusing on ergonomics and occupational health.
- Clinical Child Psychology: focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders with an emphasis on child development.
- Clinical Neuroscience: focusing on brain mechanisms underlying human behaviour, psychological health, and psychiatric illnesses.
- Work and Health Psychology: covering themes of both «clinical & health psychology» and «work & organisational psychology».
Studies Organisation
The master programme consists of 90 ECTS credits + 30 ECTS credits in a specialisation programme, spread over 4 semesters.

Admission
Master's degree programmes are built on the knowledge and abilities acquired when obtaining a bachelor's degree. Holders of a Bachelor of Science in Psychology or of another degree with «Psychology» as major branch of studies awarded by a Swiss university are admitted to the master programme in psychology without any preconditions. For holders of a bachelor's degree in psychology awarded by a foreign university recognised by the University of Fribourg, minimum requirements concerning study plans, course content, and the minimum grade of the bachelor's degree are requested to guarantee equivalence with the corresponding Swiss degree.

The degree conferred is a Master of Science in Psychology.

The programme can be studied in French, German, or both, with some courses offered in English.
