Introduction to the Maine Track MD Program
The Maine Track program at Tufts School of Medicine offers a unique opportunity for students interested in community-based healthcare. Developed in partnership with MaineHealth, this program provides a curriculum centered on community-based healthcare, allowing students to gain experience at clinical sites across Maine serving diverse communities.
Program Overview
- The Maine Track program is part of the Tufts University School of Medicine.
- Students spend the majority of their time in Maine.
- The program includes an immersive community-based curriculum.
- During their third year, many students complete a nine-month Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC), an innovative learning model that allows third-year students to follow a panel of patients as they move through the healthcare system.
Education and Career Opportunities
- Maine Track graduates receive a combined diploma from the Tufts School of Medicine and MaineHealth.
- Many graduates go on to establish a practice in the state, though there is no obligation to do so.
- The program offers scholarships that make the cost of attending Tufts comparable to “in-state” tuition, providing flexibility to pursue careers in a wide range of communities.
- The Early Assurance Program gives high-achieving undergraduates who attend specific colleges and universities in Maine the opportunity to apply to Tufts during their sophomore year.
Tuition Support
- Tufts University School of Medicine and MaineHealth offer a $25,000.00 scholarship to students who are scheduled to matriculate into the Maine Track.
- Up to twenty students in each entering class may receive this scholarship based on criteria established by a Maine-based scholarship committee.
- These funds may be renewable for subsequent years.
