Dalcroze Summer Intensive Program

The Dalcroze Summer Intensive Program is a unique opportunity for musicians, music educators, and enthusiasts to explore the Dalcroze approach to music education. This holistic method, developed by Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, combines rhythmic movement, intense listening, and improvisation to unlock creativity and enhance music making.

Program Overview

The program is designed for instructors, instrumentalists, singers, conductors, composers, music students, and music therapists, as well as actors and dancers. It is equally applicable to the classroom, private studio, beginner or advanced performers, and complements traditional avenues of study and practice. Students will discover creative applications in their own work and can participate at Levels 1, 2, or 3 as they work toward Dalcroze Professional Certification.

Program Structure

The program will take place from June 23, 2025, to July 12, 2025, with classes meeting Monday through Friday. Examinations will be held on Thursday evening, July 10, through Saturday, July 12, 2025. There will be no class on July 4, 2025. Students in week 2 may take a special workshop on June 29 from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., free of charge, instead.

Registration and Payment

Registration and payment deadline is Sunday, June 15, 2025. For more information on the certification, please consult the Dalcroze Society of America website or the official DSA Teacher Training manual.

• Examination Fees
  • Level 1 Examinations: $35 per subject
  • Level 2 Examinations: $70 per subject
  • Level 3 Examinations: $105 per subject

Tufts On-Campus Housing Options

Participants have the option of purchasing short-term on-campus housing in CoHo (Community Housing). This housing option may be purchased as early as June 22 through as late as July 13. The deadline to purchase housing is June 9. Room fees are $99 per person per night, and may include a spouse or partner who is not in the program (as long as they pay the housing fee as well).

A typical day at the Dalcroze Summer Intensive breaks up course work among the core Dalcroze subjects and topics of special interest. Here’s what a typical day may look like in summer 2025. Please note that final schedules are subject to change.

• Adriana Ausch, License: A Dalcroze music educator with a Master’s Degree in Dalcroze Eurhythmics and the Dalcroze License at Longy School of Music.
• Eiko Ishizuka, Diplôme Supérieur, Director of Dalcroze Summer Intensive: A faculty member of Longy School of Music of Bard College and Winchester Community Music School, with the highest credentials in Dalcroze training.
• Ginny Latts, License Coordinator: A Dalcroze music educator with a Dalcroze Certificate and License from Longy School of Music, and studies with Lisa Parker and Anne Farber.
• Gregory Ristow, Candidate for Diplôme Supérieur: An associate professor and Director of Vocal Ensembles at the Oberlin Conservatory, with a Dalcroze Certificate from the Juilliard School and the Dalcroze License from the Longy School of Music.
• Arthur Simoes, Diplôme Supérieur: A Brazilian pianist with a diverse career as a pianist, composer, and educator, and the highest credentials in Dalcroze training.
• Melissa Tucker, License: A Dalcroze music educator with a Dalcroze Certificate and License from Longy School of Music, and studies with Lisa Parker and Anne Farber.

History of the Dalcroze Institute of New England

The Dalcroze Institute of New England was founded by Dalcroze luminary Lisa Parker over 50 years ago. The program is delighted to continue its tradition of excellence at its new location on the Tufts University Campus in Medford, Massachusetts, USA. Each year, students from around the world receive an immersive Dalcroze education through the program and return home to become musical and educational leaders and visionaries.
