Program Overview

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Scholarship Japanese Language Preparatory Education Concentrated Program is a six-month intensive Japanese language education program for MEXT scholarship students who will enroll in graduate schools in the Kansai region. The program aims to equip students with the necessary Japanese language skills for daily life and research activities.

Course Features

• The program has a capacity of 30 students and is offered twice a year, in April and October.
• A placement test is conducted at the beginning of each semester to determine the class level for each student.
• The program consists of 16 weeks of classes, with 9 periods per week.

Class Structure

The program offers classes at different levels, including:

• Beginner I: For students with little to no Japanese language background, aiming for N5/CEF RA1 level.
• Beginner II: For students who have completed Beginner I or have a similar level, aiming for N4/CEFR A2 level.
• Intermediate I: For students who have completed Beginner II, aiming for N3/CEFR B1 level.
• Intermediate II: For students who have completed Intermediate I, aiming for N2/CEFR B2 level.
• Advanced: For students who have completed Intermediate II, aiming for N1/CEFR C1-C2 level.

Class Content

• Japanese language classes (grammar, conversation, reading, writing, listening): 7-8 periods per week.
• Kanji classes: 1 period per week.
• Current Issues in Japan and Culture and Traditions in Japan: 2 periods per week.

Attendance and Evaluation

• Attendance rate of 80% or higher is required.
• Late arrivals of 20 minutes or more are considered absences.
• A final test is conducted in July for spring semester students and in January for fall semester students.

Completion Requirements and Certificate

• Students who complete the program receive a certificate of participation.
• Evaluation is based on attendance, participation, assignments, final test, and speech.
