Program Overview

The Medical Innovation Program (MIP) is a graduate program that aims to cultivate medical innovators who can bridge the gap between medicine and technology. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in medical innovation, including coursework, research, and practical training.

Curriculum

The MIP curriculum consists of two main components: coursework and research. The coursework component includes core subjects, career path support and social implementation skill-up subjects, and elective subjects. The research component includes preliminary research, master's thesis research, and doctoral thesis research.

Core Subjects

The core subjects include:

  • University Education Course: This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in medical innovation, including lectures, seminars, and workshops.
  • Core Medical Education Course: This course is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in medical science, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology.

Career Path Support and Social Implementation Skill-Up Subjects

These subjects are designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a career in medical innovation, including:

  • Frontier-type Human Resource Development Special Lecture: This lecture series features guest speakers from industry and academia who share their experiences and insights on medical innovation.
  • Drug Discovery Medicine Overview: This course provides an overview of the drug discovery process, including the principles of pharmacology and toxicology.
  • Medical Engineering Special Lecture: This course provides an introduction to medical engineering, including the principles of biomedical engineering and medical device development.
  • Healthcare and Innovation Entrepreneurship Program (HiDEP): This program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to start their own healthcare-related business.
  • Global Health Overview: This course provides an overview of global health issues, including the principles of epidemiology and public health.
  • Bridge Research/Clinical Research Management: This course provides an introduction to clinical research management, including the principles of study design and data analysis.
  • Brain Science Training Program: This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in brain science, including the principles of neuroscience and neurology.

Elective Subjects

Students can choose from a variety of elective subjects, including:

  • (Interdisciplinary) Joint Research Project: This project allows students to work with faculty members from different departments to conduct interdisciplinary research.
  • Overseas/Domestic Internship: This internship program allows students to gain practical experience in medical innovation, including internships at hospitals, research institutions, and companies.
  • Reiwa Konoe Juku: This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in medical innovation, including lectures and workshops.

Research

The research component of the MIP program includes:

  • Preliminary Research: This research project allows students to conduct preliminary research under the guidance of a faculty member.
  • Master's Thesis Research: This research project allows students to conduct original research under the guidance of a faculty member.
  • Doctoral Thesis Research: This research project allows students to conduct original research under the guidance of a faculty member.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate from the MIP program, students must complete the following requirements:

  • Core Subjects: Students must complete a minimum of 6 credits of core subjects.
  • Career Path Support and Social Implementation Skill-Up Subjects: Students must complete a minimum of 2 credits of career path support and social implementation skill-up subjects.
  • Research: Students must complete a research project under the guidance of a faculty member.
  • Thesis: Students must submit a thesis that demonstrates their original research contributions.
