Program Overview

The International Course at Kyoto University's Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, was established in April 2011. This course provides all classes related to civil engineering in English. Students who wish to work in the field of social capital development, management, disaster prevention, and national land conservation in the future are encouraged to participate in the course's explanatory meeting.

Attractiveness of the International Course

The International Course allows students to study with excellent students who have passed the special selection exam for the course. As of 2024, there are 29 international students from eight countries and regions, studying alongside Japanese students.

  • In the first to third years, students take foundational and specialized subjects in English.
  • In the third year, students can participate in an international internship class, where they can learn about civil engineering projects overseas and how the knowledge they have acquired is applied in practice.
  • In the fourth year, students are assigned to a research laboratory, where they work on their graduation research and thesis under the guidance of instructors and seniors.

Becoming a Student in the International Course

To become a student in the International Course, Japanese high school graduates can take the general or special entrance exam. Those who have completed their education outside of Japan and hold Japanese nationality may also be eligible to take the special selection exam for the International Course.

  • Students who pass the general or special entrance exam and are admitted to the Department of Civil Engineering can participate in the explanatory meeting in March and undergo an interview to be considered for admission to the International Course.
  • Up to 10 students can be admitted to the International Course each year.

The International Course is looking for students who have the desire to work as international leaders in a borderless environment.
