Program Overview

Specialistsjuksköterskeprogrammet - operationssjukvård

Program Overview

The Specialistsjuksköterskeprogrammet - operationssjukvård is a 1-year, 60-credit program that prepares students for a qualified and independent role in today's and tomorrow's operation nursing care. The program is a full-time education (study pace 100 percent), which means an effort of at least 40 hours/week.

Program Description

As an operation nurse, you will be part of the team around the patient, responsible for person-centered and evidence-based perioperative care. You will coordinate and lead the work in the operating room, work preventively and health-consciously, and ensure the patient's well-being and safety during the surgical procedure or intervention. This includes responsibility for perioperative care, asepsis, sterility, and instrumentation during the intraoperative phase/surgical procedure/phase. The operation nurse's area of competence also includes education, supervision, and business development.

Program Structure

The program is a full-time education (study pace 100 percent), which means an effort of at least 40 hours/week. Studies are conducted to a large extent via a digital learning platform with activities such as discussions, assignments, and examinations, which requires basic computer skills and access to a computer with internet connection. Good knowledge of English is also required, as English course literature is used during the education. The program includes approximately 2-6 mandatory meetings per 7.5 credits. The meetings are held mainly at Södersjukhuset, but also at other locations in Stockholm.

Verksamhetsförlagd Utbildning (Practical Training)

Practical training takes place during three of the program's courses. A place is offered within Region Stockholm. The practical training consists of a total of 14 weeks with 32 hours per week.

Workplaces can be found, for example, within regional and private healthcare providers in operation nursing care, as well as in sterilization and infection control.
