The preparatory course for doctors before the knowledge test is designed for doctors with a basic degree from a country outside the EU who intend to take the national knowledge test and apply for a Swedish medical license. Om kursen

About the Course

The course is organized by Karolinska Institutet, the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management, and Ethics, in collaboration with language teachers at Södertörn University. The course is commissioned by the Swedish Medical Association, which has received funding from the Employment Service.

Upplägg

Course Structure

The course will cover 16 weeks of study, equivalent to full-time. It will include teaching in medical subjects included in the medical program. All teaching will be digital and take place in Swedish. All teacher-led moments in the course are mandatory. Lecture moments of two hours each are held by medically knowledgeable teachers twice a week.

The course includes teaching in Swedish with a medical focus, twice a week (2 hours each time), with university teachers in Swedish. As a complement to the teaching, language support is provided in smaller groups (6-8 participants per group), twice a week. You have the opportunity to choose a group based on which times suit you best.

Datum

Dates

The course starts on September 1, 2025, and ends on December 16, 2025.

Innehĺll

Content

The teaching in medicine consists of self-study of web-based lectures, case descriptions, and questions from previous knowledge tests and AT tests. Patient cases and questions from previous tests will be discussed in the entire group under the leadership of a specialist doctor for each subject area. Quiz questions on treated subjects are given after each 2-week period, and a review of the answers is done in the whole group with the teacher. A diagnostic test, set up as the national knowledge test, is given after half of the course and at the end of the course. You will get a personal mentor (AT doctor or equivalent) who supports you in your studies.

The lessons in Swedish focus on pronunciation, vocabulary, and conversation skills. First and foremost, general Swedish is trained, but the content is adapted to the medical themes of the week. Particular emphasis is placed on the Swedish needed to read and understand the texts in the knowledge test.

In the language support groups, there is an opportunity to converse and discuss the course's medical content, based on language challenges. The content of each group is controlled by the participants' needs and wishes.

At the beginning of the course, training is provided in conversation in role-playing form. The purpose is that you will receive feedback on your pronunciation and security in conversing early in the course.
