Optikerprogrammet

The Optikerprogrammet is a 3-year program that leads to an Optikerexamen and a Medicine kandidatexamen. The program is designed to provide students with a broad medical knowledge and the skills to work as an optiker, a specialist in eye care and vision.

Program Description

The program is built around the concepts of syn, seende, and du, and covers topics such as medicin, fysiologisk optik, and kontaktlinsteknik. The program includes a combination of lectures, clinical work, practice, and project work, as well as seminars and field studies. Some parts of the education are conducted at the Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH).

Program Structure

• The program is 180 hp and takes 3 years to complete.
• The program starts in the fall, week 36.
• The program leads to an Optikerexamen and a Medicine kandidatexamen.

Career Opportunities

After completing the program, students can work as optikers in optikerbutiker or ögonkliniker, or in the optisk industri. They can also pursue further education, such as the Magisterprogrammet i klinisk optometri.

Admission Requirements

• Matematik 2a or 2b or 2c
• Naturkunskap 2

Application and Admission

• The application period opens about a month before the deadline.
• The deadline for application is April 15, 2025.
• The program has 50 available spots.
• The tuition fee is required for students who are not citizens of the EU, EES countries, or Switzerland.

International Opportunities

The program has international collaborations with universities in Denmark, Switzerland, and Spain, and students can participate in exchange studies or digital exchanges with universities in Australia and other countries.

Accreditation

The program is accredited by the European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO), which means that students who complete the program can apply for the European Diploma in Optometry.
