Course Objectives

The course aims to provide fundamental knowledge in the assessment of melanocytic tumors according to the latest WHO classification.


Target Audience

The target audience is ST-läkare in clinical pathology with at least two years of experience and preferably experience in the diagnosis of melanocytic tumors.


Course Content

  • Melanocyte biology, benign melanocytic tumors, "special site" lesions
  • Intermediate melanocytic lesions - including grading of dysplastic nevi and borderline between melanoma in situ
  • Introduction to MpathDx 2.0 categorization
  • Melanoma and sentinel node biopsy
  • Spitz tumors
  • "Blue, BAP1, WNT" tumors and combination tumors
  • Practical melanoma diagnosis with dermatoscopy
  • Integration of molecular analyzes / NGS
  • Quiz

Course Schedule

  • The course starts with two days of self-study (Monday and Tuesday) and then three days on-site (Wednesday to Friday).
  • The course includes lectures, case discussions, and practical exercises.

Admission Criteria

  • ST-läkare in clinical pathology with at least two years of experience and preferably experience in the diagnosis of melanocytic tumors.
  • The course is prioritized for ST-läkare with the shortest time left to specialist competence.

Application and Registration

  • Registration is binding, and cancellation later than six weeks before the course start will result in a fee of 50% of the course cost.
  • Cancellation later than four weeks before the course start will result in the full course cost being charged.

  • The course is organized by the Hudkvast group and Karolinska Institutet.
