Introduction to the Program

The Karolinska Institutet offers a unique education in leadership and organizational development, specifically designed for those who have completed the first course in the series, Ledarskap och organisationsutveckling 1 (30 hp), or equivalent. This program leads to a Master's degree in Medical Management.

Program Description

The program, Ledarskap och organisationsutveckling 2, is tailored for individuals with managerial or leadership roles within healthcare, social services, or care. It is conducted in close collaboration with the participant's organization, on a part-time basis over a year, distributed over a total of 10 course weeks with individual studies in between. The goal is to enhance the participant's ability to analyze management, leadership, and organization from a scientific perspective.

Purpose of the Program

The purpose of the program is to develop a scientific approach and the ability to analyze leadership, management, and organization. It also aims for participants to acquire in-depth knowledge in scientific theory and method within the field of medical management by planning, executing, and presenting a scientific work in the form of an empirical study.

Program Structure

The education consists of two sub-courses that can be read together or separately:

1. Att leda och organisera hälso- och sjukvĺrd pĺ vetenskaplig grund (15 hp) - This includes research methodology, which is then deepened in the form of thesis work.
2. Magisteruppsats inom Medical Management Ledarskap och organisationsutveckling (15 hp) - During the thesis writing, method and supervision seminars are held in groups. Lectures, seminars, group exercises, and workshops also occur.

Target Audience

The course is aimed at individuals with a professional or bachelor's degree who have or will have managerial or leadership roles within healthcare, social services, or care, and who have completed the basic course in Leadership and Organizational Development (LOU) 1 or equivalent education.

Requirements

• A professional or bachelor's degree of at least 180 hp.
• The course Leadership and Organizational Development 1 (30 hp) at an advanced level, or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of professional experience within healthcare, dentistry, or social care (verified by a certificate of employment).
• Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6 with a minimum grade of Pass/E.

The price for the program is 98,000 SEK, excluding VAT.

Admission

Admission to the program requires filling out the application form. The last day to apply is December 22, 2023. Copies of documents verifying eligibility, such as degree certificates, transcripts, and certificates of employment, must be uploaded with the application. The education is conducted under the condition that a sufficient number of applicants are received. Karolinska Institutet reserves the right to cancel the course in the event of too few applicants.
