Utredning och diagnostik: utvecklingsneurologiska funktionsnedsättningar 6-18 ĺr

Course Description

The course focuses on the assessment and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents between 6-18 years old. It takes a comprehensive approach to assessment methodology, including the initial contact, investigation, and follow-up with caregivers and schools. Participants will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills directly in their clinical work.


Course Objectives

After completing the course, participants should have achieved the following objectives:


  • Knowledge and understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders in a developmental perspective
  • Knowledge and understanding of the assessment process and diagnostic decisions according to DSM-5 and ICD-10/11
  • Ability to create an alliance with patients, caregivers, and educators
  • Ability to apply a structured approach to assessment, including the selection of appropriate tests and instruments
  • Ability to administer and analyze tests, including the ADOS-2 and SON-R
  • Ability to summarize and present assessment results to patients, caregivers, and educators

Course Content

The course covers the following topics:


  • Assessment methodology
  • Typical and atypical development and diagnoses
  • Assessment instruments and methods, including interviews, observations, and tests (e.g., ADOS-2, SON-R, Wechsler scales)
  • Diagnostic and treatment planning
  • Collaboration with patients, caregivers, and educators

Teaching Methods

The course is conducted digitally in real-time via the learning platform Canvas and the video communication service Zoom. It includes lectures, group discussions, supervision, and method and skill training.


Examination and Certification

To receive a course certificate, participants must complete all assignments and tasks, including:


  • Submission of test protocols (Wechsler scale, SON-R, and ADOS-2)
  • Approved case presentation, including the selection of appropriate tests, synthesis, and presentation of results to caregivers and educators
  • Approved coding and clinical assessment

  • Elisabeth Nilsson Jobs, psychologist, specialist in clinical psychology, PhD, international ADOS trainer
  • Miia Ekholm, psychologist, specialist in neuropsychology
  • Johanna Ristolainen Spak, psychologist, international ADOS trainer

Target Group

The course is intended for psychologists and other professionals working with children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders.


Course Duration and Schedule

The course runs from September 7 to December 11, 2026, with 12.5 teacher-led days and 30 days of individual work.

The course fee is 21,500 SEK (excluding VAT).

  • SON-R manual
  • DSM-5
  • ICD-11
  • Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales (optional)
  • Adaptive Behavior Assessment System (optional)

Participants are also expected to have access to manuals for relevant Wechsler scales.
