Program Overview


Introduction to the Joint Law Program (Hamburg/Istanbul)

The Joint Law Program (Hamburg/Istanbul) is an integrated international law program with a double degree, offered jointly by the University of Hamburg and the leading Turkish law faculty of Istanbul University. The program lasts for 8 semesters and can be started in the winter semester. After successfully completing the program, students receive two degrees: "Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)" from the University of Hamburg and "Hukuk Lisans" from Istanbul University.


Program Structure and Content

The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of German and Turkish law, including their foundations and relationships to international and European law. The curriculum includes courses in civil law, criminal law, public law, and international law, as well as specialized courses in Turkish law.


  • The first four semesters are spent at the University of Hamburg, where students take courses in German law and introductory courses in Turkish law.
  • The last four semesters are spent at Istanbul University, where students take courses in Turkish law and additional courses with an international focus.
  • The program includes two mandatory internships, one in Germany and one in Turkey.
  • The final thesis can be written in either German or Turkish.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the Turkish language (at least B2 level). Applications are submitted through the DoSV procedure, and admission is limited to 10 students from Turkey and 10 students from Germany per year.
