Program Overview


Zertifikat "Wissenschaftsmanagement - Potenziale entfalten, Zukunft gestalten"

The Wissenschaftsmanagement is an essential part of the scientific system, which satisfies the growing need for systematic knowledge about the university and the research landscape, and thus relieves the academic and administrative staff. Since 2017, the qualification program "Wege ins Wissenschaftsmangagement" has taken a pioneering role in the training of doctoral candidates and postdocs in Wissenschaftsmanagement, and already 50 doctoral candidates and postdocs have successfully completed the program.


Starting from the winter semester 2023/2024, the program "Wissenschaftsmanagement - Potenziale entfalten, Zukunft gestalten" will start, in which we will expand the target groups of enrolled doctoral candidates and employed postdocs of the University of Hamburg to include employees who are already working in Wissenschaftsmanagement at the University of Hamburg. By merging the target groups, we want to promote the culture of learning from and with each other and advance active networking.


Doctoral candidates and postdocs will have the opportunity to gain an intensive insight into the field of work and active Wissenschaftsmanager:innen can network and further qualify.


Participants in the program will take one of two paths:


  1. Qualification of doctoral candidates and postdocs as HIGHER EDUCATION PRACTICIONER
  2. Professionalization of Wissenschaftsmanager:innen of the University of Hamburg as HIGHER EDUCATION PROFESSIONAL

It was a great program. In addition to colorful insights into an exciting professional field and many new contacts, the whole thing was also simply fun!


Auftakt

The program starts with a two-day kick-off workshop. Doctoral candidates and postdocs must participate in both days, and active Wissenschaftsmanager:innen will join on the second day.


Day 1 - only for doctoral candidates and postdocs:


  • Insight into the profession of Wissenschaftsmanagement (mandatory participation in the impulse "Berufsfeld Wissenschaftsmanagement")
  • Working conditions in Wissenschaftsmanagement
  • Individual goal setting for participation in the program

Day 2 - for all target groups


  • The German scientific system
  • Perspectives in Wissenschaftsmanagement
  • Leadership in Wissenschaftsmanagement
  • Further individual goal setting for participation in the program

Also, on these days, it's about networking and creating individual profiles.


Qualitätszirkel

Several times a year, there will be Qualitätszirkel "Wissenschaftsmanagement", which will be accompanied by personnel development. For these, the participants of the program must work on a self-chosen topic, write it down, and present it in these group events.


Participants must have participated in two of the "Qualitätszirkel" to successfully complete the program, and they only need to prepare something themselves for one of the appointments.


The dates will be announced to all certificate participants by email.


Kompetenzbereiche

In the competence areas, participants have the opportunity to expand their skills and sharpen their qualification or professionalization in relation to their personal goals. They are responsible for deciding which topics from the areas will be focused on. In total, at least 24 hours must be invested to successfully complete the program.


We offer services in the following areas:


  1. Up, Side, Down - Zusammenarbeit stärken, Führung ermöglichen The Wissenschaftsmanagement is a complex environment. In some cases, there are disciplinary leadership tasks, in some cases, it is led laterally or without a mandate. This area aims to strengthen the skills and competencies in the area of lateral leadership and cooperation across hierarchical levels. It's about recognizing and using the advantages of cooperation in all directions to develop innovative solutions, build effective teams, and promote knowledge transfer.
  2. Embracing Differences - Vielfalt leben, Potenziale entfalten In this area, participants can learn to appreciate different perspectives, create inclusive work environments, and implement the topic of diversity in the university context.
  3. Navigate the Path - Strategisch steuern, Ziele erreichen This area focuses on the development of strategic control competencies in Wissenschaftsmanagement: analyzing complex challenges, setting strategic goals, and developing effective measures to achieve the goals. This also takes into account aspects of governance and change management to successfully navigate the path and shape the development of organizations in the scientific field.
  4. Sustain the Future - Nachhaltig handeln, Innovation fördern In this area, it's about integrating sustainable principles and practices into activities and developing innovative approaches to drive positive change. This also considers topics such as resource management, environmental protection, social responsibility, and long-term perspectives to support a sustainable future in the scientific field.

Abschluss des Zertifikat

After sufficient qualification courses have been attended and the necessary work for the Qualitätszirkel has been completed, participants must conduct a final reflection and have the opportunity to take individual career counseling.


Anmeldung

Enrolled doctoral candidates of the University of Hamburg and postdocs and employees with an employment contract at the University of Hamburg can register. For the winter semester, the places are allocated, but you can register for the summer semester 2026.

      • Working on a self-chosen topic

      • Individual choice of courses from the program
  • Additionally, self-study for working on a topic and reflection questions
  • Due to the limited number of places, these will be allocated based on the motivation and fit of the cohort.
