Master's Program in Educational Science

The Master's program in Educational Science at the University of Hamburg is a four-semester program that begins in the winter semester. The program aims to provide students with advanced knowledge, skills, and methods in the field of educational science, enabling them to pursue a scientific or professional career.

Program Structure

The program consists of 120 credit points, divided into:

• A compulsory section on general educational science (29 credit points)
• A practical training section (14 credit points)
• One of two possible profile areas (29 credit points):
  • Education Theory and Empirical Education Research (BuEB)
  • Participation and Lifelong Learning (PuLL)
• An elective section (18 credit points)
• A final module consisting of a Master's thesis (30 credit points)

Profile Areas

The two profile areas offered in the program are:

• Bildungstheorie und Empirische Bildungsforschung (BuEB): This profile area combines education theory and empirical education research, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of education processes and outcomes.
• Partizipation und Lebenslanges Lernen (PuLL): This profile area focuses on participation and lifelong learning, enabling students to develop expertise in designing and implementing educational programs for diverse populations.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, students must have a successfully completed Bachelor's degree in Educational Science or a related field. Additional admission requirements and selection procedures are specified by the faculty.
