Program Overview
The Philosophy for Children: Building Research Communities in Schools and Other Educational Contexts course is a high-level training program designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to become "Teachers in Philosophy for Children" according to international standards.
Objectives
The course aims to:
- Form "Teachers in Philosophy for Children" according to international standards
- Provide knowledge on the Philosophy for Children curriculum
- Produce competencies for building "research communities" through the practice of philosophizing
- Support the acquisition of attitudes, methodologies, techniques, communication styles, and relational skills for socio-cognitive interaction and interpersonal relationships
- Familiarize participants with materials supporting the philosophical research community
- Promote the development of critical, creative, and affective-valued thinking through philosophical dialogue, argumentation skills, listening, and imagination
Formative Contents
The course includes:
- 6 monthly meetings on weekends (Saturdays all day, Sundays morning) and a final meeting for thesis discussion
- Lessons, workshops, distance learning, and internships
- "Research community" sessions according to the Philosophy for Children methodology, supervised by expert teachers
Target Audience and Occupational Outcomes
The course allows participants to acquire:
- Competencies in using the Philosophy for Children curriculum
- Thematic and methodological competencies for building "research communities" in educational contexts
- Competencies in the role of facilitator in pedagogical, didactic, contextual, and communicative-relational aspects
- Competencies in constructing dialogical contexts
- Competencies in constructing complex thinking (critical, creative, and affective-valued)
- Competencies in translating Philosophy for Children into experiences promoting citizenship, social participation, and support for personal and community life projects
