The Master in Esercizio fisico come medicina: dalla valutazione alla prescrizione individualizzata (ESMED) aims to deepen the knowledge and multidisciplinary skills of doctors in the field of clinical and functional evaluation of subjects affected by chronic diseases, with the goal of prescribing exercise as prevention and therapy for these diseases.


Objectives

  • Improve theoretical and practical skills in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases through the prescription of adapted physical exercise.
  • Acquire skills and competencies that can be easily transferred to the workplace.

Approach

  • Interactive approach with "problem-based learning" methodology to acquire practical skills and competencies.
  • Use of practical internships, accompanied by innovative simulation activities, to verify knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired.

Target Audience and Occupational Outcomes

  • The Master provides in-depth knowledge in the field of clinical-functional evaluation and adapted physical exercise for the prevention and treatment of complex chronic diseases.
  • Occupational outcomes:
    • Clinical and healthcare settings: hospitals, specialist clinics, integration of adapted physical exercise into therapeutic pathways for patients with chronic diseases.
    • Rehabilitation centers and sports medicine: management of protocols for functional recovery of fragile patients or those with specific needs.
    • Preventive medicine: application of interventions to reduce the risk of chronic diseases in hospital, outpatient, or territorial settings.
    • Freelance and consulting: personalized consulting, design and supervision of adapted exercise programs for chronic patients, collaboration with private clinics or medical fitness centers for prevention and therapy interventions.

    • Benefits of physical exercise in medicine
    • From clinical-functional evaluation to the prescription of physical exercise
    • Cardiovascular and pulmonary limitations and specific adaptations of exercise prescription in chronic diseases
    • Metabolic and peripheral limitations and specific adaptations of exercise prescription in chronic diseases
    • Prescription of exercise in special populations and extraordinary environments
    • Digital tools for health
  • The training path confers knowledge and skills that allow for the finalization of functional evaluation to the prescription of adapted physical exercise with an integrated clinical approach and a multidisciplinary approach.

  • How are the lessons organized?
    • The frontal lessons will be held in the first 12 months of the Master and grouped into 12 weekends distributed with a monthly frequency (1 weekend per month) for 10 months and biweekly (2 weekends per month) for the remaining two months.
  • How are the internships organized?
    • The Master guarantees the possibility of carrying out a 5-day practical internship at the U.O.C. di Medicina dello Sport e dell’Esercizio Fisico dell’Azienda Ospedale-Università di Padova.
    • The Master also offers a 1-2 day training internship at the Technogym Village (Cesena).
  • Are the internships mandatory?
    • Yes, the internship hours are mandatory.
  • Is a final exam required?
    • Yes, a written/oral final exam is required.
