Program Overview


Program Overview

The EMMA4EU course is designed to provide participants with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in managing deforestation-free supply chains. The course is entirely online, in English, and consists of 125 hours of educational activities, corresponding to 6 ECTS.


Course Objectives

The course aims to bridge the gap between market demands and available competencies, providing participants with knowledge of deforestation-free supply chain management. The course covers topics such as deforestation and forest degradation, international policies, and voluntary sustainability standards.


Target Audience

The course is open to participants with diverse backgrounds, including silviculture, agriculture, economics, and political science. Participants with professional experience in deforestation/forest degradation, as well as production and trade of forest-risk commodities, are also welcome.


Course Structure

The course is structured into four thematic modules, organized into sub-modules and specific educational activities. The modules cover:


  • Introduction to deforestation and forest degradation
  • Technical aspects of deforestation-free supply chain management
  • Specialist approaches to managing deforestation-free supply chains
  • Development of a final project on deforestation-free supply chain management

Course Content

The course content includes:


  • Understanding of deforestation and forest degradation processes
  • Knowledge of international policies and voluntary sustainability standards
  • Familiarity with technical tools for monitoring and managing deforestation risks
  • Development of managerial skills for designing, implementing, and maintaining due diligence systems
  • Competencies for data collection, analysis, and visualization to quantify and mitigate deforestation risks
  • Transversal skills for stakeholder engagement, communication, and public dissemination
