Physical Therapy Program Overview

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Augusta University's College of Allied Health Sciences prepares students to diagnose and manage movement dysfunction and enhance physical and functional abilities in individuals of all ages. Physical therapists work in various environments, including hospitals, nursing homes, private practices, and work settings.


Program Details

  • The program consists of 115 credit hours over eight semesters, including 32 weeks of clinical experience.
  • After completing the program, graduates must pass the National Physical Therapy Examination to become licensed.
  • The curriculum includes coursework and clinical education experiences designed to develop and hone clinical skills in real-world settings.

Admission Criteria

  • GPA: Minimum 3.0 (out of 4.0) cumulative GPA or 3.4 GPA over the last 40 hours of coursework completed; and minimum GPA of 3.0 in the prerequisite science/statistics courses.
  • Degree Requirement: A bachelor's degree in a discipline other than physical therapy prior to enrollment, preferably from a regionally accredited US institution.
  • Transcripts: Official transcripts are required from all universities and colleges ever attended.
  • Standardized Test Requirements: Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores: 145 verbal, 144 quantitative, and 3.5 percentile in analytical.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Recommendations from three individuals must be submitted through the application portal.
  • Practical Experience: 70 hours of observational, volunteer, or other work experiences in a physical therapy setting.
