Physiotherapy Program

The Postgraduate Diploma is offered in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy (NMS) or in Sport and Exercise Physiotherapy.

Overview

The Postgraduate Diploma is completed over a period of two years. The distribution of courses is Pathology, Anatomy and Physiology lectures and practical in the first year and the area of specialisation (NMS or Sport) in the second year. Intake for Year 1 is every second year only.

Curriculum

The Pathology, Anatomy and Physiology courses consist of four face-to-face contact weeks consisting of lectures and practical spread out throughout the first year. The final examinations are performed over a period of two to three weeks at the end of the year. The specialisation course consists of five face-to-face contact weeks consisting of lectures, workshops and clinical exposure spread out throughout the year. Students are expected to be working clinically in the area of specialty. The final examinations are performed over a period of two weeks at the end of the year.

Entry Requirements

• Applicants must hold a BSc/B(Physiotherapy) degree
• Applicants must show evidence of one year clinical experience
• Registration with the HPCSA

  • Motivation letter stating:
    1. Why you want to apply for the PGDiploma
    2. Area and number of years of clinical experience
    3. Relevant postgraduate courses attended
    4. Content covered in your undergraduate training relevant to area of speciality
  • Reference letter If you hold a foreign qualification, you must submit proof of evaluation of your qualification by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

University Application Process

Applications are handled centrally by the Student Enrolment Centre. Once your application is complete in terms of requested documentation, your application will be referred to the relevant School for assessment.

• Selections for programmes that have a limited intake but attract a large number of applications may only finalise the application at the end of the application cycle Meeting the entry requirements does not guarantee a place. Final selection is made subject to the availability of places, academic results and other entry requirements where applicable.
