The Gifted Certificate is entirely online and is designed to prepare educators with the knowledge base and competencies necessary for the appropriate education of gifted and talented learners.

The Gifted Certificate requires 12 credit hours, which are necessary for the Mississippi Supplementary Certificate in Gifted Education. Students pursuing certification in other states must check with their State Department of Education for certification requirements.

Gifted Certificate Coursework

The Gifted Certificate requires the following courses for a total of 12 credit hours.

• 12 hours of Professional Core courses

Professional Core Courses (12)

• EDSP 685 Characteristics of Gifted Students
• EDSP 689 Methods & Materials in Gifted Education
• EDSP 695 Differentiated Instruction for Atypical Gifted Learners
• EDSP 690 Curriculum Program Development & Prac. for Gifted Learners
• Note: These four courses can be added to an M.Ed. in Special Education.

Admission Requirements

Students applying to the Gifted Certificate must meet the following requirements.

• A completed bachelor's degree
• Hold a teacher certification
