Program Overview
Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education
The Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education is a four-year program that prepares students to instruct all of the required elementary-school subjects. This Generalist program is designed to facilitate the learning of all children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 within our diverse and multicultural society.

Program Structure
The Elementary Education program includes a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) and a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). Upon completion of this program, students will earn a Bachelor of Education degree (BEd) and be recommended for teacher certification in Alberta.
Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP)
The Aboriginal Teacher Education Program is a specialized route for Indigenous students to a Bachelor of Education (Elementary) degree. ATEP offers flexible course offerings in both in-person and online formats, allowing students to study full-time and part-time to ensure their education fits their lifestyle.

English Language Proficiency
The University of Alberta requires all students to have the language skills necessary to understand, participate, and learn in classes. The primary language of instruction is English, and students must meet the English Language Proficiency policy.
