Program Overview
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offers programs leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sciences-Obstetrics and Gynecology. These programs can be pursued as part of a post-MD training program or as an independent degree program for prospective students proceeding from an undergraduate or a Master of Science degree. Research may be carried out in any of the department laboratories or clinical facilities in a variety of disciplines related to womens health from preconception to post-menopause.

Program Core Competencies

- Professional Development and Ethics

- Communication
- Students are required to attend OBGYN seminars and participate in the OBGYN Research Day on an annual basis.
- Critical Reading/Thinking
- Students must complete 3 units of graduate level coursework to develop competency in Critical Reading/Thinking or Background Knowledge.
- Background Knowledge
- Students must complete 3 units of graduate level coursework to develop competency in Background Knowledge or Critical Reading/Thinking.
Thesis
- Registration in 900-level THES.
- Students are required to prepare and defend a thesis on a topic approved by their supervisor and supervisory committee.

Tuition and Fees
Financial assistance in the form of graduate assistantships from supervisor operating funds is normally available to students in good standing. Students are encouraged to apply for studentships from external agencies. Students may also be eligible for awards from the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

The Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies administers over $29 million each year in scholarships, awards, and financial support for graduate students, as well as financial and loan advising. Additional scholarships are also available for specific faculties and programs.
