Program Overview
The University of Alberta offers a Certificate in Advanced Studies in Speech-Language Pathology in a Francophone Environment through the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. This program is designed for individuals who wish to specialize in speech-language pathology in a Francophone setting.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or an equivalent degree from a recognized institution, and be eligible to register with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists (ACSLPA) or its equivalent in their province of residence.
- Alternatively, applicants may be enrolled in a Speech-Language Pathology program at a recognized institution and have permission from their department to enroll in this certificate program.
- Demonstrate competence in French, both written and spoken, as all courses are offered in French.
- Students are responsible for determining their level of French competence, and a language test is available through the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) to help evaluate their level.
Program Structure
The certificate program consists of three graduate courses:
- REHAB 560, offered every spring via the internet, which presents the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding the other courses.
- REHAB 561, REHAB 562, and REHAB 563, which are offered alternately and each include a 10-hour clinical laboratory.
- All courses in the certificate program are taught in French.

Students are encouraged to apply for internally available studentships, fellowships, and externally available awards from organizations such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and Alberta Innovates.
