Program Overview


Introduction to Accounting Programs

The accounting programs at SUNY Plattsburgh are designed to prepare students for successful careers in accounting and analytics. The undergraduate and graduate programs offer flexibility and customization options, allowing students to tailor their education to suit their interests.


Undergraduate Program

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting program prepares students to sit for the New York State Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination. Students can add various minors or a second major in business administration to customize their education.


Graduate Program

The online Master of Science in Accounting program focuses on accounting analytics and forensic accounting. This program is CPA-150E licensure-qualifying in New York state, and completing the program fulfills the educational requirements for NYS CPA licensure.


Program Requirements

The Master of Science in Accounting program requires 30 credits, including:


  • ACC 500 - Financial Accounting and Reporting (3 cr.)
  • ACC 510 - Advanced Accounting Information Systems (3 cr.)
  • ACC 520 - Advanced Auditing (3 cr.)
  • ACC 530 - Advanced Concepts in Taxation (3 cr.)

Admission Requirements

Admissions are available for the fall, spring, and summer terms on a rolling basis. The GMAT is not required. Students who have not earned a bachelor's degree in accounting may require additional coursework prior to enrolling in graduate courses.

The estimated time to complete the fully online M.S. in accounting program, including prerequisites, is:


  • 1 year for full-time students with an undergraduate degree in accounting or business administration
  • Less than 1.5 years for full-time students with an undergraduate degree in business
  • 2 to 2.5 years for full-time students with an undergraduate degree in a field unrelated to business
