The Expeditionary Studies Major is a unique program that takes adventure sports curricula to advanced levels, making it one of only a handful of programs in the U.S. to do so. This intellectual and physical adventure is distinct due to its comprehensive approach, which develops students' skills and thinking.
Program Overview
The expeditionary studies curriculum offers a range of focus areas, including climbing, paddling, and skiing, as well as advanced-level classes in all three. Students begin with introductory classes, such as Outdoor Living Skills, and progress to upper-level classes, which may involve paddling in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, rock climbing in Joshua Tree, or skiing on Mt. Hood.
Career Preparation
Upon completing the requirements for the B.S. in Expeditionary Studies, graduates will be prepared for a career in the expanding world of outdoor activities and many other professions.
Program Details
