Program Overview
Introduction to the Pre-Chiropractic Path
The Pre-Chiropractic Path at SUNY Plattsburgh is designed to prepare students for a career as a chiropractor. This program is open to students of various majors, and the Pre-Health Professions Advisory Committee (PHPAC) will guide students to ensure they meet the necessary requirements for chiropractic school.
Academics
Chiropractic schools have specific prerequisites, including:
- Completion of 90 semester hours of a bachelor's degree with at least a 3.0 GPA.
- A minimum of 24 semester hours in life and physical sciences courses, with half of these courses including labs.
- A well-rounded general education program, including courses in the humanities and social sciences.
Shadowing
Admissions committees at chiropractic schools expect applicants to have experience working in a chiropractic office or shadowing a chiropractor. SUNY Plattsburgh can arrange shadowing opportunities with board-certified chiropractors in conjunction with the PHPAC.

Each chiropractic school has its own application timeline and deadlines. Students can research schools and their specific requirements.
Program Details
4+4 Guaranteed Admission Program with University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic
This program is a standard 4+4 articulation program, offering several advantages, including:
- An easier application process, with guaranteed admission to the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic for students graduating with a GPA of 3.0 or greater in an approved major.
- Scholarship opportunities based on scores in science courses.
Requirements
- Completion of 90 semester hours of undergraduate study with a GPA of at least 3.0.
- A minimum of 24 semester hours in life and physical science courses, with at least half including labs.
- A well-rounded general education program in the humanities and social sciences.

Scholarships
Students who complete the program with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and meet specific science course requirements are eligible for scholarships valued at $1,750, $2,000, or $2,500.
Application Process
- Students submit a letter of intent to the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic during their first two years at SUNY Plattsburgh.
- Students apply for admission to the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic one year in advance of their desired entrance date, completing all application procedures, including a satisfactory admission interview.
Pre-Health Professions Advising
The Pre-Health Professions Advisory Committee provides guidance to students on various pre-health paths, including pre-medicine, pre-dental, pre-physician assistant, and more.
