Creative Writing Summer School
Overview
The Creative Writing Summer School is a three-week transformative summer school held at Exeter College, Oxford. The program offers opportunities for writers at both intermediate and advanced levels to work under the guidance of experienced tutors.
Programme Details
- Daily schedule: The academic timetables run from Monday to Friday each week.
- Meals: All meals included in the program take place in Exeter College's dining hall and are self-service, with a range of options available.
- Social program: A range of optional social events will be offered throughout the course, including walking tours and excursions.

Funding
Oxford Lifelong Learning is unfortunately unable to offer any scholarships, bursaries, or reduction in fees for this summer school.
Application
- Intermediate-level application process: Applications for the intermediate strand will be processed on a first come, first served or rolling basis until 1 May 2026.
- Advanced-level application process: The advanced strand of the summer school operates a gathered field closing date system by which applications are reviewed fairly and equally in batches at specific dates throughout the admissions period.
Selection Criteria
This is an intensive program of study taught to an informed international audience. Applicants should be confident that they are academically and linguistically prepared for such a program.
English Language Requirements
Applicants for whom English is not their first language must provide evidence of their proficiency in the form of an original certificate or a certified copy that is not more than two years old on the date the summer school starts.
Accommodation
For residential students, the program fee includes accommodation from Sunday 26 July to Friday 14 August 2026 inclusive, and meals in hall from dinner on Sunday 26 July to breakfast on Saturday 15 August 2026 (except lunch on all Saturdays and Sundays).
IT Requirements
Although it is not required, most students bring a laptop to Oxford to assist them with their studies. All students will be eligible to use the computers and printer in Exeter College's computer room, and wireless access is available in communal spaces of the college.
