The Psychedelic Renaissance: Hope or Hype?
Overview
This course explores the narratives and neuroscience of altered states, therapeutic breakthroughs, and the deep cultural roots of substances like psilocybin, LSD, and ayahuasca.
Programme Details
- Seminars: Participants are taught in small seminar groups of up to 10 students and receive two one-on-one tutorials with their tutor.
- Programme Timetable: The daily timetable includes seminars, tea/coffee breaks, lunch, and afternoons free for tutorials, individual study, or exploring Oxford.
Certification
- Certificate of Attendance: All participants who complete the course will receive a physical Certificate of Attendance.
- Digital Badge: Participants will also be issued with an official digital badge of attendance.
- Academic Credit: The course carries 10 CATS (Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme) points at FHEQ (Framework for Higher Education Qualification) Level 4.

- Mr. Damian White: An accredited Existential, Cognitive Behavioural, and Relational Life Psychotherapist with a background in international humanitarian work, domestic social work, and university lecturing.
Course Aims
- Introduce the various histories of psychedelics
- Introduce the philosophical, neuroscientific, and ethical ideas that underpin their research and use
- Introduce the potentials and pitfalls of psychedelics
- Encourage a gain in self-awareness

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will have been given the opportunity to:
- Develop a greater understanding of the various histories of psychedelics

- Develop a greater understanding of the potentials and pitfalls of psychedelics
- Gain in self-awareness
Assessment Methods
- Pre-course assignment of 1,500 words
- On-course assignment: 1,000 word written assignment or a presentation supported by individual documentation
