Arboriculture Program
The Arboriculture program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is designed to prepare students for a wide range of careers in tree care and urban forestry. As an environmental steward, students will learn to sustainably care for trees and fight global climate change.
Program Description
The two-year arboriculture and community forest management program focuses on hands-on learning, where students will learn how to:
- Plant, fertilize, diagnose, and prune trees
- Remediate disease and pests
- Assess tree risk
- Climb safely
- Install tree support systems
- Remove trees as a team
Curriculum and Degree
The program is an applied program in the Stockbridge School of Agriculture and includes a five-month internship experience, resulting in a two-year associate degree. The curriculum prepares students to take arborist certification exams.
