Program Overview
Endodontology MSc
The Endodontology MSc program is designed for dentists wishing to develop knowledge and clinical skills in Endodontics. Students will expand their academic, clinical diagnostic, and treatment skills to a higher level.
Programme Structure
The program is 36 months part-time and is led by Professor William McLean, past President of the British Endodontic Society and Congress President for the World Endodontic Congress 2024.
Year One
- ADVANCED RESEARCH METHODS IN ORAL SCIENCES: This course develops students' critical understanding of different methodologies and approaches used by researchers in oral sciences.
- BIOLOGICAL BASIS OF ENDODONTIC DISEASE: The course aims to develop a knowledge base required for assessing the needs of patients with endodontic disease.
- INTRODUCTION TO ORAL SCIENCE RESEARCH SKILLS: This course provides training in generic research skills for dentists.
- PRIMARY ROOT CANAL TREATMENT: The course aims to facilitate the acquisition and integration of a knowledge base to provide students with academic knowledge and clinical skills.
Year Two
- ADVANCED ENDODONTICS: The course provides academic knowledge and clinical skills to enable students to develop their skills in diagnosing endodontic problems.
- ENDODONTIC INTERFACES: The course provides academic knowledge and clinical skills to enable students to develop their skills in diagnosing endodontic problems.
- TOOTH LOSS AND STRATEGIES FOR TOOTH REPLACEMENT: The course provides academic knowledge and clinical skills to enable students to develop their skills in diagnosing endodontic problems.
Year Three - Dissertation
Teaching will be delivered in the form of in-person small group seminars/tutorials, case-based discussions, and online sessions.
Career Prospects
Completion of this course will enhance clinical skills in Endodontics, allowing delivery of contemporary treatment to patients. The course aligns with the requirements for accreditation as a dentist with enhanced skills and can support an application for accreditation to work within managed clinical networks.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should have a BDS or equivalent and be registered with the General Dental Council.
English Language Requirements
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic and Academic Online: 7.0 overall with no subtest less than 7.0
- TOEFL (ibt, mybest or athome): 100 overall with Reading 24; Listening 24; Speaking 23; Writing 27
- Pearsons PTE Academic: 70 overall with no subtest less than Reading 65; Listening 64; Speaking 78; Writing 72
- Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE) and Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): 185 overall with no subtest less than 185
- Oxford English Test: 8 overall with no subtest less than 8
- LanguageCert Academic/Academic Online: 75 overall with no subtest less than 75
- Password Skills Plus: 7.0 overall with no subtest less than 7.0
- Trinity College Integrated Skills in English III: Any two subtests no less than 110 and any two subtests no less than 105
- Kaplan Test of English: No subtest less than 500
- University of Glasgow Pre-sessional courses: Tests are accepted for 2 years following date of successful completion
Alternatives to English Language Qualification
- Degree from majority-English speaking country (as defined by the UKVI including Canada if taught in English)
- Undergraduate 2+2 degrees from majority-English speaking country (as defined by the UKVI including Canada if taught in English)
