The Five Artists: Myths and Legends course is a short program that introduces students to artists who have created works depicting myths and legends. Each meeting is devoted to an individual artist who made a significant impact on the development of the subject within the UK, Europe, or beyond.

Course Summary
This course aims to provide an introduction to the life and work of significant artists who have depicted myths and legends, study in detail individual major works by each artist, and set the works of art within the broader historical, cultural, and social developments of their time.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate familiarity with each artists life, career, and art
- Analyse primary and secondary sources to contextualise the artists key achievements
- Interpret and discuss the range of aesthetic, social, and cultural influences that shaped the style and output of the selected artists
Target Audience
The course is designed for anyone with an interest in visual art and especially Myths and Legends as subject matter.
Qualifications/Credits
The course offers 5 credits at SCQF 7 / Level 1, which can contribute towards the attainment of a Certificate or Diploma in Higher Education, or a Certificate in Higher Education in History of Art.
Assessment
The assessment consists of a visual test: formal analysis and contextual analysis of 2 works (100%). An alternative assessment can be arranged for students whose disabilities would prevent them from performing satisfactorily in the visual test.
Mode of Study
The course is taught in person on campus, with class materials posted on the course website (Moodle).
Prospects
The course can further students' study of the history of art at university level.
