Program Overview

Introduction to the Master of Music in Music Education (Summer Program)

The Master of Music in Music Education (Summer Program) is a degree offered exclusively in summer sessions. Although some courses are available in the Fall and Spring semesters, it is not possible to complete the degree in these semesters alone, as the majority of required coursework is only offered in the Summer sessions.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Master of Music degree program in Music Education on regular status, an applicant must have a bachelor's degree in music education from a recognized educational institution, or have completed the courses in music education that are required for the Bachelor of Music degree in music education at Michigan State University or their equivalents.

University and Music Supplemental Applications

Applicants must create two applications: a Graduate Application and a College of Music Supplemental Application. Both applications are due on December 1. Current MSU Music Graduate students seeking to change or add a program are required to submit both applications and pay all appropriate application fees.

  • Curriculum Vitae: To be considered for a fellowship or teaching assistantship, applicants must provide a curriculum vitae that includes all relevant education and professional experience.
  • Personal Statement: In the personal statement, applicants should describe their educational and musical background, goals and objectives, and future career plans.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Applicants must request letters of recommendation from three individuals familiar with their abilities in this field.

Additional Requirements for International Graduate Applicants
